Finish Care and Maintenance

Regular and Living Finishes

Plating finishes may vary in appearance, and due to the nature of certain finishes, environmental changes and time will alter the appearance of these various finishes. The finish may vary in luster, hue, and appearance as a result of the final finishing step. Therefore, Altmans Products is unable to guarantee color matching in these instances. Furthermore, Altmans excludes all finishes exposed to the outside marine environment and sunlight.

Many installation compounds are harmful to brass and other metal finishes. The use of lead based acidic curing adhesive, mastic or plumbing putty on or near the Altmans finishes will void warranty. Also, use of ammoniated or abrasive cleaners or water softener will void the finish warranty.

Care and Cleaning

Like anything of lasting quality, Altmans plated finishes or coating require a certain amount of periodic care to preserve the finish and comply with the warranty. Clean your parts with mild soap, then promptly rinse with warm water and dry with a clean, soft cotton cloth.

Never use abrasive polishing compounds, chemical cleaners, alcohol, or solvent for cleaning for they will damage the finish!
In addition, by taking the time to dry your parts after each use, soap and water deposits can be prevented.

Recommendation

Once every month or two apply 100% pure “Carnauba wax” (not the polish), which is available at major auto parts stores. This will add another temporary protective coat. Before applying, take a clean, soft cotton cloth and wipe the entire fixture. Use a soft toothbrush if buildup is stubborn. This will remove any unwanted residue. Failure to comply with these care instructions may void warranty obligations. If the above steps are followed explicitly, your decorative finish will be a pleasure to look at for many of years to come.
